Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions
What is RealityCharity?

RealityCharity™ is the gratifying, new way to give™. Coined "the eBay of Giving" by the international media, RealityCharity is the world's first direct fundraising platform and philanthropy community. Organizations and individuals around the world may raise money for good causes, directly and instanty, by harnessing the power of the Internet to reach their social networks as well as other generous donors at home and across the globe. We are creating a permanent paradigm shift in the world of philanthropy, fundraising and charitable giving. The net amount of each contribution goes directly to the Fundraiser, immediately.

Organizations and individuals who are conducting fundraisers for virtually any reason--in 50 countries around the world--may post their Fundraiser detailing their cause and financial requirements, including photos and documentation. We employ rigid and sophisticated online identity verification techniques similar to those implemented by top financial institutions and top websites for which security is a high priority, so donors can feel good about doing good.

After creating a fundraising page, Fundraisers are strongly encouraged to immediately direct their social network to their new fundraising page using tools that we provide such as badges and customized emails that integrate with and complement whatever existing website, blog, or email list you may have, to leverage your existing relationships . These constituents, friends, and/or family may provide the initial beachhead of financial support, leave public messages of encouragement on your personalized Donor Wall for others to see, and then forward the link on to their social network as well, and so forth, creating a viral giving effect.

Furthermore, generous and loving people around the world looking to instantly make a difference may search or browse the listings by numerous criteria--such as by keyword, location, age, religious affiliation, or approximately 40 categories of need--to find specific stories of organizational and personal fundraisers that resonate with them. Donors may then make an instant, secure, online cash donation directly to that organization or individual using all major credit cards, or directly from a bank account if they have an account with our partner, PayPal. The net amount of each donation is electronically disbursed instantly and directly to the PayPal account of the organization or person conducting the fundraiser.

At RealityCharity™, we are passionate about providing a gratifying, easy, and direct way for people to help each other and for organizations to dramatically lower their fundraising costs while raising more money and awareness for their important causes. Together, we can change the world, one cause, family, or person at a time. It is for these reasons that we have become known as the "eBay™ of giving."

Who founded RealityCharity?

RealityCharity was founded by Alexander Blass. In his own words:

"I founded RealityCharity in 2005 and spent over two years developing it because I believe strongly in the ideals of social entrepreneurship and helping others. After receiving my MBA at Oxford University in 2003, I joined a venture capital fund, one of the traditional career paths following business school. It was a 'good job' by traditional definitions and fulfilling in some ways, but unfulfilling in others. I wanted to do something that would truly improve the lives of a larger number of people, thereby making mine more meaningful in the process. After traveling through nearly 40 countries and seeing so many people suffering abroad as well as in our own backyard, in person and on the news -- one disaster after another -- I felt there had to be a better way to do this. A way to empower individuals in need by giving them a voice to communicate directly with generous people that would love to help them if they knew where to find them. A way for wonderful organizations that are making a difference to lower their fundraising costs while getting their message out to a global audience. RealityCharity represents my vision for achieving this."

Is my information secure on the site?

Yes. We use 128-bit SSL encryption when processing any sensitive information. We do not store sensitive information processed by Equifax®. We have gone to great lengths to create a safe, trusted, and gratifying environment for our special philanthropic community.

Is RealityCharity a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization?

No. Just as eBay® is not an auctioneer itself, but rather a platform for conducting auctions -- similarly -- RealityCharity itself is not a charity -- rather a platform for conducting, facilitating and processing charitable fundraising and philanthropic donations between other parties. However, RealityCharity does indeed support fundraising by organizations and therefore donations to non-profit organizations may be made directly and instantly through our site as well with the same tax benefits, where applicable.

How does RealityCharity support itself to provide this important service to the public?

While there is no fee for personal fundraisers, to keep our own lights on RealityCharity charges small fees for organizations to utilize our innovative platform to conduct their online fundraising initiatives. Our organizational rates are negligible compared to the thousands of dollars typically spent on fundraising and overhead costs. By dramatically lowering their fundraising costs and leveraging their social networks and a global audience on RealityCharity, organizations may operate more efficiently, raise more money and awareness for their cause, and put more of one's donor dollars towards their important programs rather than overhead.

We also seek corporate sponsors who are philanthropically minded and would like to help support our mission. To inquire about sponsorship opportunities please send us an email here.

How much of my donation actually goes to the individual or organization conducting the fundraiser?

In the case of individuals, all of it, instantly, less the small amount of money that we are charged to electronically process your donation and transmit it. In the case of organizations, we also charge a small operating fee. We calculate and automatically deduct any applicable fees to the penny for each donation, since they may vary slightly depending on payment method, currency exchange, and donation amount. In all cases, the fundraiser immediately receives the net donation amount, electronically.

How much money can organizations save by fundraising with RealityCharity versus their traditional fundraising/overhead costs?

According to charity watchdog website www.CharityNavigator.org, if a charity spends 25% of your donated money on overhead such as salaries, fundraising and media, it is considered to be doing an average job in the sector. Because RealityCharity only charges qualified organizations a small subscription and operating fee, and the organization receives each net donation instantly, organizations can save thousands of dollars in fundraising costs. With this unsurpassed level of efficiency and reaching people around the world directly, a much higher percentage of your donor dollars can go where you want them to -- the important causes and mission of the organization.

Do I have to be a registered user to search or browse the listings?

No, go for it! You don't even have to be registered to make a donation.

Do I have to be a registered user to make a donation?

No, it's optional. It's quick and easy for you to instantly change a life™.

Is there a way to search the listings by specific criteria, like religion or location?

Yes, you may search by many criteria. On the homepage, you may search by keywords, cause, or region of the world. For many more search options, click on Advanced Search under the "Search by Keyword" box.

How do I report a listing that I believe is fraudulent or otherwise in violation of the Terms of Use?

We take these issues very seriously at RealityCharity. Like other community sites such as Craigslist and eBay, we appreciate assistance from our users in reporting questionable material. Each listing has a "Report Abuse" link. Please report any suspicious or inappropriate listings so that we may collectively strengthen our philanthropic community.

What does a checkmark mean next to someone's username?

When you see the next to a username, it means that the user has completed the process required become identity-verified. This process is intended to identify that the user is in fact who he or she (or it, in the case of an organization) claims to be. In the United States, this is done via a state-of-the-art online identity verification process for individuals similar to those employed by top financial institutions and others, conducted by a leading third party processor used by top banks, credit card providers, mortgage lenders and other entities with a high need for top-level security. Users in other countries (as well as those who fail the online check) that choose to be verified go through a rigorous, offline manual identity verification process. We manually verify organizations as well, and in the case of non-profits, their proof of tax exempt status (or equivalent in their country) as well.

We do this to protect the integrity of our special philanthropic community and make sure that you can feel good about doing good, and rest assured that you know where your money is going. RealityCharity strongly discourages you from giving to a user whose identity has not been verified, unless you know them personally. You can even limit your searches for those in need by checking the "ID Verified Listings Only" box. Everyone on RealityCharity has the ability to get identity verified either through the online or offline identity verification processes.

Note that the identity verification process does not verify whether the cause that the user is raising money for is "worthy" or "legitimate." We recommend that all Fundraisers provide some documentary evidence on their donation page that is visible by the public to support their need or cause and bolster their claim, but we cannot verify the authenticity of the documentation provided.

RealityCharity is a self-policing community, like Craigslist, eBay®, and many others. Like other sites, we actively monitor the activity on the site for violations of our Terms of Use, and provide a "Report Abuse" link to the public on each listing page so that we may promptly remove inappropriate or fraudulent listings. For the most part, however, we strive to allow you to make your own decisions about where your hard-earned money should go. After all, the term "worthy cause" is highly subjective. While one person may think a wounded veteran is most worthy of their contributions, another Donor may relate more to a single mother in another country trying to make ends meet. We really don't feel it's our business to make those decisions for you. For everyone with a story, there is a person somewhere who will be able to relate to it, no matter how unusual it may be.

What do the other icons mean next to someone's username?

The other icons denote your cumulative giving total over the lifetime of your RealityCharity account. The more you give, the higher you climb on the RealityCharity Giving Ladder. It makes it even more fun to do good when you get recognition for it! Here is a breakdown of the Giving Ladder and its associated icons:

Level Icon Name Cumulative Giving
0 None None None
1 Yellow Ribbon $10 - $249
2 Star $250 - $999
3 Olive Branch $1,000 - $2,499
4 White Rose $2,500 - $4,999
5 Flame $5,000 - $9,999
6 Globe $10,000 - $24,999
7 Red Heart $25,000 - $49,999
8 Gold Heart $50,000 and above

Now don't worry, the icon only appears next to your username, so you can maintain complete anonymity, in case you don't want to get recognition. Your real name and/or location is never displayed unless you choose to display it for a particular donation. You may also choose to hide your user profile entirely so that others can't see your donation history.

How do I hide or unhide the public display of my user profile?

After you login to your account, click on your Account link at the top of the page, then under My Profile click on "Edit Profile and Status." From there, you may toggle the first item entitled "Make my profile visible to the public." If you uncheck the box, and click "Save" at the bottom of the page, you will still be able to view your profile, but others won't.

Why is everything in US Dollars if organizations and individuals in 50 countries may conduct fundraisers?

We do this to maintain consistency and avoid confusion to our Donors. The U.S. Dollar is arguably the closest thing we have to an international currency, and most people using other currencies around the world have a pretty good grasp of the value of their currency to the U.S. Dollar. If we allowed our Fundraisers to post listings in different currencies, there would be no basis for comparison for our Donors, and it would cause mass confusion.

For example, if a Fundraiser in Hungary creates a listing seeking to raise $500 in donations to purchase a plane ticket to visit his ill grandmother overseas, this is understandable to most people. However, if we allowed the same fellow to post his donation page using Hungary's currency instead, the equivalent of $500 in their currency is 100,000! Needless to say this would discourage and confuse virtually any potential donors outside Hungary.

The good news is, although we utilize U.S. Dollars as the standard on the RealityCharity site, Donors may give in their native currency and Fundraisers may withdraw their funds in their own native currency as well. The currency exchange process is handled transparently to you. You do not need to hold an account in U.S. Dollars to make or receive donations on RealityCharity.

What does it mean when a donor name appears in gold letters?

When a donor name appears in gold letters, this person was the honoree of a Gift Donation made in their name.

How may I abbreviate my name as displayed in my user profile, donation page, and the Hall of Fame to my last initial instead of my full last name, i.e. "Jane P." instead of "Jane Philanthropist"?

After you login to your account, click on your Account link at the top of the page, then under My Profile click on "Edit Profile and Status." From there, you may toggle the radio buttons next to "Site Display Name" between your full name and truncated name at any time. Click "Save" at the bottom of the page to change your preference.

Questions For Donors
How much of my donation actually goes to the individual or organization conducting the fundraiser?

In the case of individuals, all of it, instantly, less the small amount of money that we are charged to electronically process your donation and transmit it. In the case of organizations, we also charge a small operating fee. We calculate and automatically deduct any applicable fees to the penny for each donation, since they may vary slightly depending on payment method, currency exchange, and donation amount. In all cases, the fundraiser immediately receives the net donation amount, electronically.

How long does it take for my donation to get to the Fundraiser?

A matter of seconds. You will receive a confirmation email, and the Fundraiser will immediately receive an email entitled "You've Got Cash!" notifying them that your generous donation has been instantly deposited into their account, along with a funds confirmation message from our partner, PayPal™.

How can I be sure that this organization or person is who they say they are?

All organizations are manually verified by a member of our team before their fundraiser may be initiated and appear to the public. In the case of a non-profit organization or charity, for example, this includes verifying their official government paperwork detailing their tax exemption status or equivalent documentation in their country.

A) On the personal fundraising side, to create a gratifying, safe and trusted philanthropic community, RealityCharity has invested significant time and resources in partnering with a leading third party processor to integrate highly sophisticated identity verification and authentication technology, similar to those employed by top financial institutions and others for whom security is a top priority. Using state-of-the-art technology and a highly complex algorithm, users are presented with a personalized quiz generated from various databases, comprised of questions about their life that only that person would know the answer to.

When you see the next to a username, it means that we have successfully verified the actual identity of that user to make sure that he or she (or an organization) is indeed who they claim to be. Users outside the United States (as well as all organizations and those that fail the online system) are verified through a rigorous offline, manual identity verification process.

We strongly discourage you from donating to a personal fundraiser whose identity has not been identity verified, unless you know the Fundraiser personally. You may even limit your searches to identity verified listings by checking the "ID Verified Listings Only" box. Everyone on RealityCharity has the ability to get identity verified.

B) Each donation page contains a Donor Wall where people leave words of encouragement of support when making a donation. Messages may only be left when a donation is made, and to be most successful as a Fundraiser on RealityCharity, we strongly encourage Fundraisers to tap into their own social network first to provide the first wave of donations, i.e. family and friends that know the Fundraiser personally and can vouch for them. Those friends and family then forward the URL to their social network as well, creating a viral effect, where the Fundraiser has been recommended and vetted by someone you know and trust. Review the comments left on the Donor Wall to see what other Donors have to say about the Fundraiser. If a stranger has received dozens of praiseworthy comments from prior donors who have a personal relationship with him or her, their endorsement may speak for itself.

C) When a Fundraiser initiates their donation page, they may include up to 7 documents of supporting evidence to bolster their claim which you will see in their listing (of course, they should block out sensitive data). These documents may be downloaded and reviewed by the public at any time while donations are being accepted.

We believe that potential donors such as you are intelligent and savvy enough to use sound judgment when evaluating who you believe is worthy of receiving your hard-earned money and who is not.

Who can make a donation? Do I have to be from a particular country?

Anyone, anywhere with a valid credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, or Discover), or a debit card bearing a Visa or Mastercard logo, or directly from their bank account if using PayPal.

What is the minimum donation amount?

Just $10.

What payment methods do you accept?

Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, as well as PayPal which may be linked to your checking account.

Can I give to a non-profit or other organization on RealityCharity as well as to individuals?

Absolutely, and we strongly encourage you to do so! Verified non-profit organizations conducting fundraisers on our site receive special attention on RealityCharity, and are accessible directly from our homepage. Just look for the bold-green category heading on the left side of the screen. We verify their non-profit status individually and manually, and there you will always see an ID Verified icon next to their username as well as on their fundraising page. By joining RealityCharity, organizations may dramatically lower their fundraising overhead costs, build community amongst their constituents and leverage their social networks, offer recognition to donors large and small, and raise more money and awareness by reaching out to a global audience.

Are my donations to individuals tax-deductible? (applicable to US donors only)

No. The Internal Revenue Service in the United States does not allow tax deductions for giving a donation directly to a specific person. Fortunately, it is very encouraging to note that according to recent studies by the Wall Street Journal and Harris Interactive, only 15% of Americans who give care at all about any tax benefit. The vast majority are driven to give primarily by the desire to make a difference and because they support the cause, first and foremost.

Are my donations to organizations tax-deductible? (applicable to US donors only)

Yes, as long as the "Details" section of the fundraising page states that it is a verified Organization (not an individual), and the organization's fundraising page is listed under the category of "Non-Profit Orgs" and, naturally, that they are in the United States.

We verify the status of all non-profit organizations and review their recognition of exempt status letter from the Internal Revenue Service. Keep your instant email confirmation of your donation for your records, as it has the organization's name, your donation amount, and the date of your contribution.

Do I need a PayPal account to make a donation?

No. You may also make donations using any Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover card, as well as a debit card bearing one of their logos.

Can I make an anonymous donation?

Yes. This option will be presented to you when you make your donation. If you are a registered user and give anonymously, your cumulative giving total will be incremented by the donation amount, but the specific donation you give anonymously will be omitted from your public donation history, and neither the Fundraiser nor the public will know who made the donation. However, you may still leave personalized messages as an Anonymous Donor.

Can I make a donation in the name or honor of someone else, like for my uncle's birthday?

Yes. This option will be presented to you when you make a donation. The Fundraiser will know that it was made in the person's honor, and the honoree will instantly receive a personalized E-Card from you commemorating your donation in their honor with as much or little information as you desire. The Donor Wall will reflect your gift donation as well, if you choose.

How do I add a picture of myself so it will appear on the Donor Wall like other people?

For your photo to appear, you must be a registered user and logged in when you donate. If you would like a photo to appear on the Donor Wall next to your public message, after logging in, click on your Account link on the top of the page. From there, under My Profile, click "Add/Edit Pictures." If you upload a Primary Photo, a thumbnail image of this photo will be displayed on the Donor Wall when you leave a public message upon donating. If you do not want a photo to appear when you leave a public message on a Donor Wall, simply do not upload a Primary Photo. A gender icon will appear in its place.

The above does not apply to Anonymous or Gift donations. In those instances, your photo will not appear on the Donor Wall, whether or not you are registered or logged in.

How secure is my information as a Donor?

You are in control over the information you provide to the public. We provide a platform for you, and the rest is up to your comfort level. For example, we do not give out your email address, phone number, address, or other personal information without your permission. You can even hide your last name and just use your initial. Or you can hide your entire name and just use a username. Or give anonymously. Or in someone else's honor. You can display your location, or hide it. Same with your user profile. The list goes on. Try it out! We have gone to great lengths to put the power in your hands.

In the case of a personal fundraiser, how can I be sure this person hasn't already raised money for the same cause on RealityCharity previously? For example, how do you prevent the same Hurricane Katrina victim from soliciting donations again after successfully raising the money they needed the first time?

We prevent this from happening by prominently displaying a link to an archive copy of any prior fundraisers conducted by the same person or organization on their current listing. If the user has previously raised funds for any reason on RealityCharity, a new section will appear on their donation page entitled "Previous Listing(s)." The public may then click on any entries listed here to view an archived image of the expired fundraisers to view what the cause was, and how much donation money was received and from whom. For your protection, Fundraisers are unable to delete these archives.

In the case of a personal fundraiser, what sort of evidence is there that the person's story is legitimate?

First and foremost, you should only donate to identity verified users unless you know the Fundraiser personally. Identity verified users are very easy to distinguish on the site. Second, we also encourage Fundraisers to provide documentation that is attached to their listing page to prove that the cause for which they are raising funds is legitimate. Depending on their situation, some relevant documents Fundraisers may choose to provide to the public include:

  • Official documents from government and other trusted 3rd party agencies and sources
  • Letters of support on official letterhead from people such as ministers, priests, rabbis, military personnel, employers, friends, respected individuals, organizations, or an annual report or mission statement, etc.
  • Legal documents such as tax statements, pay stubs, bills, financial statements, driver's license, passport, employer identification, termination letters, eviction notices, foreclosures, lawsuits, adoption letters, student transcripts, admissions letters, and many others that may apply in their particular case
  • Additional photographs that support their cause and pass the "sniff test"

Third, keep in mind that all Fundraisera are strongly encouraged to begin their fundraising initiatives by directing their social network (i.e. friends and family) to their new donation page, who provide the initial beachhead of support. Then their social network forwards it on to their social network as well, and so on, creating a viral fundraising initiative. So by the time it gets to strangers helping strangers, there may already be 10, 20, 50 or even 100 donations and messages of support from people that know the Fundraiser personally, either directly or indirectly. Like in the real world, referrals from others are the best endorsement anyone can ask for. Look at the Fundraiser's Donor Wall and see what prior Donors have to say.

RealityCharity is a self-policing community, like Craigslist, eBay, and many others. Like other sites, we actively monitor the activity on the site for violations of our Terms of Use, and provide a "Report Abuse" link to the public on each listing page. Other donors may be more comfortable only giving to verified non-profit organizations that they are already familiar with and support. We really don't feel it's our business to make those decisions for you. For everyone with a story, there may a person somewhere who will be able to relate to it and want to help.

Do I have to register to make donations?
What is the advantage of registering?

If you register, your entire donation history will be tracked in one easy place in your account, making it simple for your charitable and philanthropic record keeping every year. As you make donations and the total dollar amount accumulates over time, you will climb RealityCharity's Giving Ladder, and a particular giving icon will appear next to your username. As you climb the ladder over time based on cumulative giving, this icon will change, and other users will recognize your generosity when they see your username. You will also qualify to appear on our Donor Hall of Fame, which tracks top givers not just by total dollar amount, but by frequency of donations as well. For example, a donor giving $5,000 on one occasion may appear high on one list, while a donor giving $10 on 50 occasions may appear high on another list. The following is RealityCharity's Giving Ladder:

Level Icon Name Cumulative Giving
0 None None None
1 Yellow Ribbon $10 - $249
2 Star $250 - $999
3 Olive Branch $1,000 - $2,499
4 White Rose $2,500 - $4,999
5 Flame $5,000 - $9,999
6 Globe $10,000 - $24,999
7 Red Heart $25,000 - $49,999
8 Gold Heart $50,000 and above

You are in control over the information you provide to the public. We provide a platform for you, and the rest is up to your comfort level. For example, we do not give out your email address, phone number, address, or other personal information. You can even hide your last name and just use your initial. We have gone to great lengths to put the power in your hands. You have lots of flexibility.

Does it cost any money for me to host a fundraising campaign through RealityCharity?

For individuals, no. For organizations, there is a small subscription fee to use our service. Organizations may click here for additional information.

How long does my fundraiser remain active on the site?

For individuals, this depends on the duration you select when you create your fundraiser, as you will be presented with multiple choices. Presently, the minimum is 60 days, and you may post a new fundraiser once it expires. The expiration date of your fundraiser is clearly indicated on your Account page under "My Active Fundraiser" as well as on your fundraising site itself.

For organizations, this depends on your preferred duration of your fundraising campaign. Organizations may click here for additional information.

Do I have to post my real name and other information to the public?

No. On your Account page, you may choose to display either your full name or a truncated version of your name for more privacy. Other private information such as email address, mailing address, and phone number remain confidential. If you upload documentary evidence to your listing, you may block out sensitive information. Use your judgment based on your own comfort level regarding what information you are comfortable sharing with the public. It's up to you to make a compelling case that Donors find credible and worthy.

Can I promote my RealityCharity fundraising page on my blog, website, email, etc.?

Sure, it's very easy. When your new listing is created, the shortcut URL to your donation page is simply www.realitycharity.com/username. For example, if your username is "savedarfur" you can post the following URL for others to go directly to your fundraising page:

http://www.realitycharity.com/savedarfur

Do I need a PayPal account to receive donations?

Yes. If you don't have one yet, it's fast and free to register. Just click here and select a Premier or Business account for maximum flexibility.

Will PayPal charge me a fee to withdraw my money?

No. Irrespective of what kind of PayPal account you have, whether it is a Personal, Premier or Merchant account, the Net Donation amount you receive from the Donor in your PayPal account is the actual amount you will have available. RealityCharity has prepaid the withdrawal fee for you, to be able to offer full transparency to our community of social philanthropists and not have you incur any fees.

How can I get my fundraiser to appear on the homepage?

The homepage randomly displays a current, ID Verified fundraiser. To qualify for the random selection, your listing must have a Primary Photo, and the Primary Photo must be of a horizontal nature, not vertical.

Am I required to undergo identity verification before posting a listing?

No, but it is highly recommended and we strongly discourage donors from giving to unverified users unless they know you personally. Many donors only view identity verified listings in their search parameters. Your credibility and fundraising success on RealityCharity will be far greater if you are identity verified. As the minimum donation is $10, the small cost of the identity verification process pays back for itself virtually immediately.

You may request identity verification at any time?before, during, or after posting a listing.

Does the identity verification process impact my credit score, and what if I have bad credit?

No. It is considered a "soft inquiry" and does not impact your credit score at all nor appear as a standard inquiry. This is because it is not an application for credit nor an evaluation of your credit worthiness. Its sole purpose is to make sure you are who you say you are.

What is the shortcut URL to my fundraising site to give to others and post on my blog, etc.?

http://www.realitycharity.com/username

How long does it take until my fundraiser becomes live on the site?

It goes live immediately.

Can I create more than one fundraiser?

Yes, but only one may be active at a time. When your current one expires, you may create a new one. An archive copy of any previous fundraisers you have had on RealityCharity will be available for potential donors to review.

Can I make changes to my fundraiser or delete it after I post it?

Yes you may make some changes to it from your Account page under "My Active Listing."

You may only delete your listing before you have received any donations. Once you have received your first donation, you may not delete it, for security reasons.

Do I have to specify my ethnicity and religion in my fundraiser?

No. These are optional pieces of information that you may or may not wish to provide. Philanthropy is a very personal thing, and some donors may enjoy helping a person of a particular faith or ethnicity, such as their own. It's entirely up to you. It's just additional metrics by which potential donors may find your listing and want to help you.

Do I need to provide evidence of my need?

No, you can do whatever you want. However, needless to say, establishing your credibility with potential donors is absolutely critical to the success of your fundraising efforts. Whereas identity verification proves that you are who you say you are, the documentary evidence you provide will support that you have the specific need you are claiming to have. You may include virtually anything you are comfortable posting to the public, and may block out any elements you wish you block out.

Try to put yourself in the shoes of potential donors and ask yourself how much or little information you would need to see before you would believe your story and donate money to another person. For example, you may want to black our or white out part of your last name to obscure it, or your street address, or other sensitive information like parts of your credit card number, or social security number. It is entirely up to you, so just remember that you are responsible for what you put on this site.

Content we deem to be inappropriate will be removed and we will monitor reports of abuse. Fraudulent claims will be reported to the appropriate authorities and we will cooperate with them to the fullest extent of the law to prosecute anyone trying to defraud people through our site. We will do everything in our power to zealously protect the integrity of our process so that donors can have faith in RealityCharity and will want to continue helping real people in real need.

Will donors or other people receive my email address or be able to contact me directly?

No. The only contact a Donor may initiate with you is by sending you a private, personalized message that we deliver to you in your "You've Got Cash!" email when you receive a donation.

How much money may individuals seek to raise?

Anywhere from $100 to $50,000. Be realistic. The more reasonable, attainable, and justifiable your target fundraising goal is, the more likely generous people will want to help you. A plane ticket to New Orleans to do volunteer relief work for Habitat for Humanity does not cost $10,000.

I can't make my mortgage payment and the bank is threatening foreclosure, but it's all related to the mess I went through in Hurricane Katrina. Is my cause Mortgages/Foreclosures or Natural Disasters?

It's both. Often times, one reason is a result of another. Maybe a wounded veteran needs money for medical bills. Therefore, we allow you to list up to two causes?one primary and one secondary. So, a Katrina victim may select Natural Disasters as the Primary Cause, and Mortgages/Foreclosures as the Secondary Cause, for example. The wounded veteran who requires assistance paying for his or her medical bills may opt to select Military Families/Veterans as the Primary Cause, and Healthcare/Medical as the Secondary Cause.

When you list both a Primary and Secondary Cause for your donation page, donors will find your listing when browsing either category.

I live outside the US. Can I raise money in a currency other than US Dollars?

No problem! You will receive the donations in U.S. Dollars to your PayPal account, but if you prefer, PayPal will convert the donations into your primary currency upon receipt. Or, you may hold a balance in U.S. Dollars in addition to your primary currency.

PayPal supports accounts in the following currencies: U.S. Dollar, Canadian Dollar, Euro, Pound Sterling, Australian Dollar, New Zealand Dollar, Hong Kong Dollar, Singapore Dollar, Yen, Swiss Franc, Hong Kong Dollar, Swedish Krona, Danish Krone, Norwegian Krone, Polish Zloty, Hungarian Forint, and Czech Koruna.
