Reality Charity Principles

We built RealityCharity to level the playing field by offering a charity platform without the middleman---giving a voice to people in need and helping generous donors find and donate to them.  This platform also allows people to form bonds based on common charitable interests, by being able to learn about each other including information pertaining to one's donation history. We understand you may not want everyone in the world to have the information you share on RealityCharity; that is why we give you control of your information. Our default privacy settings limit the information displayed in your user profile to your username, first name, last name, location, age, gender, donation listing information (if any), recent login information, account creation date, and recent donation history. You may modify the display of some of this information to the public, or hide this information entirely from the public at any time from your Account page.

Reality Charity's Privacy Policy

RealityCharity's Privacy Policy is designed to help you understand how we collect and use the personal information you decide to share, and help you make informed decisions when using RealityCharity located at www.realitycharity.com ("Reality Charity" or "Web Site").

By using or accessing RealityCharity, you are accepting the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

About Privacy

RealityCharity is committed to safeguarding your privacy online and we set out below how we do this.

We use information we collect about you to help us understand more about how our site is used. Where you have given your consent, we may also use it to communicate with you by email when we have information we think may be of interest to you. We reserve the right to contact you periodically, even when you have not opted-in to receive communication from RealityCharity, if there are important notifications regarding the Service.

The information we collect from you may vary depending upon how you use the site - as a visitor, a member who creates a fundraising listing and/or as a donor to those in need.

In this section, we often refer to ‘personally identifiable information’, which is information that enables us to identify you, such as your email address, name, and your password and postal address.

Read on to find out how information relating to you will be treated as you use our site.

The information we collect from you as a visitor

RealityCharity collects information about the Internet Protocol (IP) addresses of all visitors to our site. An IP address is a number assigned to your computer automatically when you use the Internet. RealityCharity collects this information as well as member activity to help administer our website, diagnose problems, and mitigate fraud, suspicious activity and disputes. We also use IP addresses to monitor site traffic patterns in order to further develop and improve the design and layout of our site. We may report IP information in aggregate to partners.

RealityCharity also collects information volunteered by you, for instance in surveys, user profiles, or during registration.

If you post personally identifiable information, e.g. photos, documents, and information, in areas of the site accessible to other users, such as fundraising listings and/or user profiles, you should be aware that such information can be read, collected, or used by other users and the public, and could be used improperly.  We are not responsible for the personally identifiable information you choose to submit in these forums or for others’ misuse of such information. Any misuse or improper collection of information provided on RealityCharity is a violation of the RealityCharity Terms of Service and should be reported to us by using our feedback link located on the bottom of the homepage.

By using Reality Charity, you are consenting to have your personal data transferred to and processed in the United States.

The information we collect from you as a donor

If you make an online donation, we collect additional information comprised of your credit or debit card details, including card type, card number and expiration date at the time of the donation, but we do not store this information.  If you pay with a PayPal account, your transaction is handled on Paypal's website after which time you are automatically returned to our website.

RealityCharity gives you broad control over how much or little information about you and your donation is provided to (a) the recipient and (b) public visitors and members. Potential donors may make donations regardless of whether they have signed up for an account.  Either way, you may donate either in your own name (or another display name you'd like), anonymously, or as a gift donation in another's name. We never share your credit/debit card information, email address, and your real name and/or postal address are only provided to the recipient of your donation if you select this option at the time of your donation.

Who receives your information?

RealityCharity collects your personally identifiable information and does not pass it on to third parties, with the following exceptions: to the credit card authorization company, when necessary to process a donation made by you to your chosen recipient, or other payments, and to Equifax if you undergo the voluntary identity verification procedure.

We may share aggregate information, such as statistical or demographic information with third parties, however, this information does not include personally identifiable information.

Your choices regarding the use of your information

When you make a donation to a fundraising page, you can determine how you would like your name to appear publicly on that page, and privately to the recipient.

Accessing, Changing or Removing Information

The accuracy of your individual information is important, so if any part of it changes at any time please let us know by updating your details in your Account.  RealityCharity users may modify or remove some of their profile information at any time by logging into their account.  Access and control over most personal information on RealityCharity is readily available through the editing tools by clicking on the Account page.  Information will be updated immediately. Individuals who wish to deactivate their RealityCharity account should simply select the Hide option for their profile on their Account page.  By doing so, neither visitors nor other members will be able to see any information about you or your account. Removed information may persist in backup copies for a reasonable period of time but will not be generally available to members of RealityCharity.

Where you make use of the communication features of the service to share information with other individuals on RealityCharity, however, (e.g., posting a public message on a recipient's Donor Wall) you generally cannot remove such communications, so please use sound judgment about what information you are comfortable remaining in public view.

Canceling and editing your fundraising page

Your fundraising listing will remain active until it expires, based upon the term length you were given when you created the listing.  If a listing has not received any donations yet, you may delete it in your Account page.  If a listing has received at least one donation, you will not be able to delete it, and a link to your previous listing(s) will appear in your active listing and in your profile (if not hidden).  This measure is to thwart fraud, by providing an audit trail to prevent people from attempting to raise money for the same reason on multiple occasions.  This audit trail applies to expired listings as well.  You may edit many of the details of your fundraising listing page on your Account page.

Use of Information Obtained by RealityCharity

When you register with RealityCharity, you have control over your own profile and privacy settings. Your profile information, as well as your name and photo, are displayed to people only according to your privacy settings located on your Account page.  For example, your profile may be completely hidden from anyone other than you, or you may display an abbreviated version of your name which conceals your last name from the public.  We may occasionally use your name and email address to send you notifications regarding new services offered by Reality Charity that we think you may find valuable, but your email address is not shared with other users.

Profile information is used by RealityCharity primarily to be presented back to and edited by you when you access the service and to be presented to others permitted to view that information by your privacy settings.

Processing donations

As is common with many e-commerce web sites, RealityCharity works with a credit card company. Our chosen credit card processing partner manages all customer data in accordance with consumer data protection legislation.

Legal Process

Although unlikely to happen, RealityCharity may provide personally identifiable information to the appropriate authorities as may be required by law or when we believe that disclosure is necessary to protect RealityCharity's rights or the rights of donors, or to comply with a legal process.

About Security

RealityCharity takes appropriate precautions to protect our users' information. Your account information is located on a secured server behind a firewall. Because email and instant messaging are not recognized as secure communications, we request that you not send private information to us by email or instant messaging services. If you have any questions about the security of the RealityCharity Web Site, please contact us by using the feedback link located on the bottom of the homepage.

We are proud of the high level of security we provide when you make online donations as our secure servers work to protect your credit or debit card information as follows:

Along with our credit card processing partners, we use industry standard Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology to provide a secure and safe environment for card donations. It encrypts all of your personal information, including card number, name and address so that it cannot be read as it travels over the Internet.

To our knowledge, there has never been a case in which a consumer has lost money as a result of fraudulent card use resulting from a breach of SSL security as data was transmitted over the Internet.

Your donations are processed as follows:

You select a recipient via their fundraising page and choose to make a donation or register.

Our Secure Server and your browser exchange "digital keys".

The secure online donation form is displayed.

After you have filled in the secure form, your browser will encrypt the information.

The encrypted message is sent to our Secure Server.

Only your browser and our Secure Server will have the "digital keys" needed to decrypt the message.

Our Secure Server then decrypts the message and stores the information in our secure database.

All credit and debit card processing is done from the secure database.

At no point is your valuable payment information sent via email or any other non-secure method.

Your donation, email address, and card information are all completely confidential.

Please remember that you play an important role in protecting your own security and privacy by keeping your password secure.

If you have any questions about our Privacy or Security Policy please contact us via email by using the feedback link located on the bottom of the homepage.

Sharing Your Information with Third Parties

We do not provide contact information to third party marketers without your permission. We share your information with third parties only in limited circumstances where we believe such sharing is 1) reasonably necessary to offer the service, 2) legally required or, 3) permitted by you. For example:

·         We may provide information to service providers to help us bring you the services we offer. Specifically, we may use third parties to facilitate our business, such as to host the service at a co-location facility for servers, to send out email updates about RealityCharity, to remove repetitive information from our user lists, to process payments for products or services, or to provide search results or links (including sponsored links). In connection with these offerings and business operations, our service providers may have access to your personal information for use for a limited time in connection with these business activities. Where we utilize third parties for the processing of any personal information, we implement reasonable contractual and technical protections limiting the use of that information to the Reality Charity-specified purposes.

·         We occasionally provide demonstration accounts that allow non-users a glimpse into the RealityCharity world. The passwords for such accounts are changed regularly to limit possible misuse.

·         We may be required to disclose user information pursuant to lawful requests, such as subpoenas or court orders, or in compliance with applicable laws. We do not reveal information until we have a good faith belief that an information request by law enforcement or private litigants meets applicable legal standards. Additionally, we may share account or other information when we believe it is necessary to comply with law, to protect our interests or property, to prevent fraud or other illegal activity perpetrated through the RealityCharity service or using the RealityCharity name, or to prevent imminent bodily harm. This may include sharing information with other companies, lawyers, agents or government agencies.

·         We may offer stores or provide services jointly with other companies on Reality Charity. You can tell when another company is involved in any store or service provided on RealityCharity, and we may share customer information with that company in connection with your use of that store or service.

·         If the ownership of all or substantially all of the RealityCharity business, or individual business units owned by Reality Charity, LLC were to change, your user information may be transferred to the new owner so the service can continue operations. In any such transfer of information, your user information would remain subject to the promises made in any pre-existing Privacy Policy.

These third party advertisers may also download cookies to your computer, or use other technologies such as JavaScript and "web beacons" (also known as "1x1 gifs") to measure the effectiveness of their ads and to personalize advertising content. Doing this allows the advertising network to recognize your computer each time they send you an advertisement in order to measure the effectiveness of their ads and to personalize advertising content. In this way, they may compile information about where individuals using your computer or browser saw their advertisements and determine which advertisements are clicked. RealityCharity does not have access to or control of the cookies that may be placed by the third party advertisers. Third party advertisers have no access to your contact information stored on RealityCharity unless you choose to share it with them.
